About Bombay Cat breed

Description

Created by crossbreeding the American Shorthair with the Burmese, the Bombay is a medium sized cat and muscular cat. The Bombay’s head is rounded, with wide-set ears and eyes. The Bombay has a sturdy build, though females tend to be more delicate. The cat’s paws are round, and the medium-length tail is straight.

Look

This American breed looks like a miniature panther. The Bombay has a beautiful black coat, with short silky fur. Even the Bombay’s nose and paw pads are black. Kittens may be born lighter, but will darken to black as they mature. Bombay cats have yellow or orange yes, ranging from shades of copper to gold shades. The Bombay’s short coat is easy to care for. Your Bombay will only need the occasional brush to remove loose hair. This breed only sheds moderately.

Health

The Bombay is a generally a healthy, hardy cat, but they are prone to a few health problems:

• Gingivitis

• Sinus problems

• Craniofacial defect (birth defect)

At KittenGuru.com, we recommend that you buy your kitten from reputable breeders, who use genetic testing and good breeding practices to remove genetic conditions from their breeding lines. KittenGuru.com’s Health Guarantee certifies that all promoted kittens are in good health.

Temperament

The Bombay is affectionate and playful. This breed tends to be calm but out-going, and keen to make friends with everyone, though your Bombay may choose one particular person as his/her favourite. They are sociable cats that love attention. Though with age they make become more independent, generally speaking Bombay cats love to be with people, and hate to be left alone for long periods of time.

Living with

The Bombay makes an excellent pet for most people. They are calm and sweet, and are often good pets for families with children. They are only moderately vocal (they will happily chat to you!), and with enough mental and physical stimulation these cats would adapt to living in an apartment. Bombays can live with other cats and pets, but they often want to be in charge, and it may take some time and work for all your pets to get along. When not snuggled up asleep, the Bombay enjoys playing. Bombays are often intelligent, and will enjoy learning tricks or playing with puzzle toys. As Bombays are susceptible to gingivitis, make sure your cat’s teeth remain healthy. You can start brushing your Bombay’s teeth from a young age so that he/she gets used to it. At your annual vet checks, ask your veterinarian to check your Bombay’s teeth and gums to make sure everything is as it should be.
