About Devon Rex Cat breed
Description
The breed history starts from the United Kingdom in 1960-70. Devonshire had several abandoned mines, near which people discovered a curly cat with disproportionately large ears. Nobody was able to catch a mystery of nature, but the cat left its seed. Fortunately, the breeding of Rex allows cat lovers to meet all kinds of color variations: black, bicolor, white, gray, chocolate, blue, and many other colors. Males are slightly larger than females.
Look
The Devon Rex has a small head with heart-shaped cheekbones. This breed is particularly slender and has large upturned ears giving the cat a striking appearance. Notably, the coat should be wavy and short, soft to the touch. The fur is longer on the face, back, and sides. This breed is considered to be hypoallergenic.
Health
Although the Devon Rex cat is generally healthy, it is prone to certain health conditions. These include:
• Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
• Hereditary myopathy
• Patellar luxation
• Sunburns
At KittenGuru.com, we recommend that you buy your kitten from reputable breeders, who use genetic testing and good breeding practices to remove genetic conditions from their breeding lines. KittenGuru.com’s Health Guarantee certifies that all promoted kittens are in good health.
Temperament
The Devon Rex cat is friendly towards both adults and children. It can remember the simplest of commands easily and execute them successfully, making training a breeze. This cat does require a lot of attention; therefore it should not be left alone for long periods of time. It’s temperament might even remind you of a puppy at times.
Living with
To properly care for a Devon Rex cat, you need to take into account the uniqueness of its coat. Regular bathing is necessary to keep its fur neat and clean. It is strongly advised to start introducing your kitten to regular grooming from an early age. Because of the short coat, this cat is better suited to warm environments.
