About Norwegian Forest Cat breed
Description
This large sturdy cat is descended from the cats that the Vikings brought with them when as they travelled throughout Norway. The Norwegian Forest cat’s head is triangular, with a straight profile and a firm chin. Their ears are typically large and fuzzy. The cat’s large eyes are almond-shaped and expressive. The Norwegian Forest cat has a strong, sturdy build. They appear powerful without being fat. The hind legs are ever so slightly longer than the front legs, so that the cat’s rump is higher than its shoulders. The feet are large and round, with tufts of fur between the cat’s toes. The Norwegian Forest cat’s tail is long and fluffy, like the rest of the coat.
Look
The Norwegian Forest cat has a thick double cat. The outer coat is sleek and glossy, and the under coat is thick and downy for warmth. The coat tends to be fuller and thicker in the cold winter months, and thinner in the summer. This breed is a moderate to heavy shedder, and will need regular brushing to remove loose fur and avoid tangles and knots in the hair. Although their coats are thick, Norwegian Forest cats are quite easy to groom. These cats are also fastidious and will spend a lot of time grooming themselves. This breed comes in a huge variety of colours and pattern: everything from spotted tabby to pure white. Most breed standards allow any colour/pattern except for colour-point, chocolate, sable, lavender, lilac, cinnamon, or fawn; the presence of these colours suggest that the cat is not a pure Norwegian Forest cat, but a mixed breed.
Health

• Polycystic Kidney Disease
• Retinal Dysplasia
• Hip Dysplasia
