About Siberian Cat breed
Description
The first mention of this breed was in the Bukhara Emirate, which existed from 1785 to 1920. To survive the harsh climate, the Siberian cat has thick, long hair. Males weigh up to 9kg, with the smaller females weighing at most 7kg.
Look
The Siberian’s paws are large, wide, with hair between the toes. This breed has a beautiful coat, though if the fur becomes wet it tends to curl up on the belly. The specialty of this breed’s coat is that it typically does not provoke allergic reactions in sensitive persons;, be aware that this phenomenon varies between people. The Siberian comes in many colours and patterns: black, white, black brindle, striped, chinchilla, silver, gold, marble, and smoky.
Health
The Siberian is generally a healthy breed, but is prone to certain health conditions:
• Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
At KittenGuru.com, we recommend that you buy your kitten from reputable breeders, who use genetic testing and good breeding practices to remove genetic conditions from their breeding lines. KittenGuru.com’s Health Guarantee certifies that all promoted kittens are in good health.
Temperament
Siberian cats have excellent hunting skills: if no prey is available, they will enjoy playing with cat toys. Siberians have an independent temperament. They don’t mind living with other animals. Siberians follow their human everywhere and want to be involved in everything. If harness trained, a Siberian cat would probably enjoy a walk in the park or a trip to the countryside.
Living with
Brush your Siberian cat every day to avoid tangles, especially during shedding season (Spring and Autumn). Siberian cats don’t mind water, so if a bath is necessary your Siberian can be washed. Brush your cat’s teeth to prevent dental and gum disease.
